In 1932 there were 13 Conservative women MPs. At the last election, 74 years later, 3 newly elected women MPs brought our total up to 17. Women make up just 9 per cent of the Conservative Parliamentary Party, an increase of just 1 per cent on the previous total. It would have taken the Conservative Party 400 years to achieve equal representation of women within its ranks at the pre2007 rate of activity. Women comprised 28 per cent of all Labour MPs, an increase of 5 percentage points from 2001.
