Having served as Shadow Health Secretary to two Conservative Leaders, Liam Fox received further promotion under Michael Howards leadership. He was made CoChairman of the Conservative Party, working alongside Lord Saatchi. After his election for the safe seat of Woodspring in 1992, Liam Fox enjoyed a rapid rise through the ranks, becoming Parliamentary Private Secretary to Michael Howard, a whip and then a minister at the Foreign Office within a few years. He also backed Howards shortlived bid for the leadership in 1997. He is socially conservative in outlook, at one time even calling for a return of the flogging of criminals.
